I ask Matt from Lake Tahoe Boards to write an outline of their boards and philosophy. This was because I had never seen the boards yet they had a growing 'cult' following on the NCDSA page. Also they are offering a 62" board. Visit their site HERE to see the shapes etc. Looks like another nice option when looking for a BIG board !
Our carving boards range from 9 ply to 13 ply.
They all have a progressive flex pattern and can handle all rider weights.
The Tahoma 42 comes in two flex patterns, 1 for riders up to about 140lbs.
and the stiffy for anyone else. Depending on how hard you ride your board
the Talmont 52 is good for riders up to about 215lbs. Personally I am
210lbs. and have never broken this board. The big Tallac 62 is an awesome
board to ride. It can handle just about any rider weight, although lighter
riders tend to think it is a little stiff. We have also just added a new
series of boards called the Fusion series. They are available in 39" and 44"
They both are made of 7 ply pressed maple, and have concave, kicknose and
tail. These will be posted on the site within the next two weeks.
Anyway that is a little tech info on the boards. When we started this
company a couple of years ago it was purely to make boards the way we
wanted. I am 6'3" and 210lbs with a size 11 1/2 foot. All the boards that
were available at the time were not very accommodating for some one of my
size. They also seemed like the designs were not completely thought out. I
have a collection of longboards and most of them have bad wheelbite, were
narrow, and components that were (in my opion)sub standard. So basically we
set out to build a better mouse trap. Myself and the people I ride with take
the sport of longboarding very seriously. I wanted to ride a board that I
had the utmost confidence riding. Whether we are bombing hills at 45mph or
carving steep city streets in traffic we need boards that will handle
anything we do or try. We ride everyday, and when we travel we carry a
quiver of boards to ride anything we may come across. We like to consider
ourselves as ambassaders for the sport. No matter where we go people are
always asking us about the sport, and we gladly take the time to answer the
same questions time and time again. Longboarding is growing very rapidly and
if we can convince one person a day to try the sport that brings us so much
fun then it's all worth it.
So there you have it, another manufacturer with the right attitude, I would much rather use these kind of guys than some skate manufacturer who have just added a longboard 'cos they are getting trendy but wouldn't even think of adding them to their next video !!
